At the start of the year a report in the Korea Times newspaper said Vingroup is likely to acquire LG’s smartphone manufacturing plants in Vietnam, China and Brazil.
Vingroup, one of Vietnam’s biggest conglomerates, was seeking to expand into the high-tech sector through the acquisition of the state-of-the-art facilities, improve its global smartphone competitiveness and use the Brazilian and Chinese plants to enter regional markets.
But it later reported that the talks were off after Vingroup reportedly asked for too low a price. ....

FPT Telecom uses Ciena kit

Vietnam s FPT Telecom Joint Stock Company is to deploy hardware and software from Ciena to manage rising residential broadband traffic across the country.
To date, FPT has deployed Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform powered by WaveLogic Ai coherent optics; Manage, Control and Plan (MCP) domain controller Route Optimization; and Analysis (ROA) from Blue Planet, a division of Ciena.
Additionally, Ciena Professional Services will provide technical expertise to accelerate the network rollout and assist FPT Telecom engineers in the deployment and operation of the network .
“Delivering fast and reliable connectivity is the foundation of making Vietnam a more connected nation and equips us to play in the international arena,” said Hoang Viet Anh, CEO, FPT Telecom. ....

Preparations underway for upcoming elections
Joint efforts have been made to prepare for the upcoming elections, heard a meeting of the National Election Council (NEC) in Hanoi on January 18.
It was reported at the second meeting of the NEC that the council has joined hands with the NA Standing Board, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee in the preparation work.
As of January 14, the issuance of documents regarding the elections of deputies to the 15th legislature, and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure has been completed.
Efforts have been made to ensure security and safety for the elections, according to chief of the office of the NEC Nguyen Hanh Phuc. Meanwhile, election committees have been set up swiftly in localities. ....
