Hanoi closes sidewalk eateries, cafés to curb COVID-19 transmission risk

Hanoi authorities have required immediate closure of sidewalk eateries, coffee and iced tea stalls in the entire Vietnamese capital as risk remains high in the community with more COVID-19 infections reported in recent days.
The suspension came into effect from 0:00 Tuesday by order of Hanoi’s deputy chairman Chu Xuan Dung at the municipal Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control meeting on Monday afternoon.
Dung emphasized that this is an urgent measure to prevent and fight the virus in the community that needs people’s understanding and sympathy. ....

Vietnam says areas worse-hit by latest virus outbreak 'basically under control'

HANOI (Reuters) - Vietnam’s health minister said on Friday a new COVID-19 outbreak was “basically under control” in the areas most affected, as cases spread to Hanoi, the capital, where the ruling Communist party is holding its five-yearly congress.

Vietnam reported 53 new cases on Friday, including one in Hanoi and eight in nearby Haiphong city and Hai Duong, Quang Ninh and Bac Ninh provinces. That brought the total number of cases in the outbreak that began on Thursday to 149, the government said in a statement. ....
