Hundreds attend Palmerston North march to highlight Palestine violence

Violence has escalated in recent weeks along the Gaza Strip, a blockaded strip of land between Israel, Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea.
Hamas militants have fired hundreds of rockets, while the Israeli military has launched hundreds of airstrikes and amassed thousands of troops and reservists along the border.
Apartment buildings have been destroyed and hundreds of civilians either killed or wounded, while the UN says and as many as 10,000 Palestinians have been forced out of their homes.

Striking students want further action to solve climate change

Banners included: “It s getting hot on here”, “Save our planet” and “We demand climate action”.
One of the organisers, Gryffin Powell from Awatapu College, said climate change was important in Aotearoa.
He said students’ demands included phasing out the use of fossil fuels, investing in renewable energy and climate education.
“We need to protect [the planet] and make sure we let the Government know what are the most important issues,” the 16-year-old said.
