Mayor wants to build Lee Kun-hee museum in Busan

Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon has expressed his desire for Busan to host a museum for the donated art collection of late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee.
The wish came after President Moon Jae-in ordered his aides to review a plan to set up a separate place to exhibit the 23,000 pieces of art, rather than dividing them up among multiple museums and exhibition halls.
On Sunday, Park posted a message on Facebook saying the tentatively named Lee Kun-hee Museum will become a superb tourism attraction.
It is said that an art museum to show Chairman Lee s donated collection will be built, and news reports say that museum will be in Seoul, although the bereaved family hasn t agreed, he wrote. ....

Moon Suggests Special Hall for Lee Kun-hee's Art Collection

President Moon Jae-in has suggested opening a special exhibition hall for the priceless art collection donated by heirs of the late Samsung chairman Lee Kun-hee, a Cheong Wa Dae official said on Thursday.
It will be build either at the National Museum of Korea or the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art or become a new gallery.

Culture Minister Hwang Hee told reporters on Wednesday, The donation carries great significance in that there ll be a must-visit exhibition hall in the country for foreign tourists.
In his book on the collection, Lee Jong-sun, a former deputy director of the Ho-Am Art Museum, wrote, Not every rich person can collect national treasure-level artworks. Lee Kun-hee s collecting activities were patriotic in that he contributed to preventing our national treasures from being smuggled out. ....
