Mid Suffolk District Council refused plans for nine homes off Hawes Lane in Norton by Ash Property Consortium Ltd at its meeting on Wednesday morning, citing fresh highways and rural character concerns. Developers had originally submitted plans for 20 homes there in 2019, rejected by the committee in the autumn of that year and upheld by the Planning Inspectorate on appeal. ....

Proposals for nine homes off Hawes Lane in Norton have been lodged by Ash Property Consortium Ltd. A previous application for 20 homes on the same site in October 2019 was refused, prompting an appeal that was ultimately unsuccessful. The chief reason for the refusal was: The proposed development accessing Hawes Lane would, if approved, likely result in a significant conflict between cars and pedestrians by construction traffic and during the lifetime of the development and given the design and character of the lane would be detrimental to highway safety and amenity for existing residents ....

No consultations are being made yet until the view of CCC Highways is known. The clerk continues to action the removal of the disused telephone kiosk. Both BT and the Community Heartbeat Trust have also been contacted by residents on two occasions as well as by the clerk. The clerk has also contacted CCC Highways twice regarding the repair of Crowpark bridge and awaits a response. ....
Christine Hill spent 20 years at Westminster School on the Rowley Learning Campus, rising to headteacher. She said it was a bit of a shock to receive the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the New Year s Honours. During her time at the Hawes Lane school it received an Outstanding Ofsted, moved to a new site and expanded to take more youngsters, helping many of them into employment, with pupils taking up roles with employers including Russells Hall Hospital and Interserve grounds maintenance. The 67-year-old mum-of-three and grandmother-of-two, who lives in Baylie Street, Stourbridge, retired last April. She said: Being a headteacher is the best job in the world - you can influence in the right way so many things to help pupils be successful. ....
