Public Meetings: City Council to Review Plans for 18 Residences at Former Arthur Sharp Site

Plans for a six-story, 18-unit building on the site of the former Arthur Sharp Hardware goes before the Haverhill City Council tonight for review and approval of three waivers. Attorney Michael J. Migliori, representing developer Alan Sfeir, described the riverfront proposal in a letter to councilors as a “vibrant redevelopment” of the roughly quarter-acre site. In its application, the developer says three waivers are needed allowing 18 units where five are required, 18 parking spaces where 27 are required and a height of 91 feet where 55 is the maximum allowed.

In the interest of transparency in government, WHAV provides this list of upcoming meetings every week. Haverhill nonprofits serving the needy that may be eligible to share in the city’s allocation of federal Community Development Block Grant money have an opportunity today to receive assistance preparing applications. Community Development Director Andrew K. Herlihy said the city encourages as many applications as possible, but grants are limited under law to 15% of the total federal allocation or around $155,000.

Haverhill Seeks Volunteers to Fill Vacancies on License and Conservation Commissions

By WHAV Staff | Haverhill City Hall. (WHAV News file photograph.) The city is seeking applicants to fill vacancies on two prominent city boards License Commission and Conservation Commission. Mayor James J. Fiorentini is seeking replacements for License Commissioner Gerald A. Sewell, who died unexpectedly this month, and Conservation Commissioner Joseph DiPietro, who is moving out of town. The three-member Haverhill License Commission is responsible for liquor, automobile sales and food serving licenses. The Conservation Commission is the local environmental enforcement body. It protects land, water and biological resources of the community. Applications for the volunteer positions are available on the city website at cityofhaverhill.com. Those interested are asked to email completed forms to [email protected].
