Melcher-Dallas’ girls’ basketball team ended a tumultuous season with a first-round playoff exit at Martensdale-St. Mary’s Thursday night as the Saints lost, 60-42; the boys will be back in action for their final game of the regular season as they travel to Sigourney.
The Saints’ girls could not run with the Blue Devils throughout the game, as they were outpaced and outshot the whole night. Kynser Reed led the way in scoring with 11 points. Grace Overgaard had nine points and the Enfield twins, Kacey and Riley each had eight. This was the first time Overgaard, the Enfield twins, and Haley Godfrey stepped on the court in two weeks as they were out due to COVID-19 contact tracing in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament. ....
The Saints’ boys have now won back-to-back games after finishing fourth in the conference tournament. Melcher-Dallas had three players hit double figures as Ryan Krpan, Lane VanderLinden and Pierce Chiabotta each had ten points or more. Krpan and VanderLinden each had 13, while Chiabotta had ten. VanderLinden tells KNIA Sports that fresh legs will be important as the season starts to wind down.
