India s top umpire Nitin Menon and his Australian counterpart Paul Reiffel has pulled out of the IPL due to personal reasons. It is learnt that Menon, a resident of Indore, has left the IPL bio-bubble after his wife and mother tested positive for COVID-19. Menon is the only Indian in the ICC elite panel of umpires and was recently praised for his work during India s home series against England.  Yes, Nitin has left as his immediate family members have COVID-19 and he is currently not in a mental state to conduct games, a BCCI official told PTI. ....

Menon was included in the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires for the season 2020-21 following the annual review and selection process conducted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in June 2020.

Mumbai : Umpire Nitin Menon, who is in ICC’s Elite Panel, has withdrawn from the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League as coronavirus continues to rage in the country.
A BCCI official said Menon’s family has coronavirus cases and that is the reason behind the pull out. “Nitin’s mother and wife have tested positive for coronavirus and that is why he had to pull out. We hope they have a speedy recovery and we are always with him for any help that is needed. The backups that we have will be used in the games that were assigned to him,” the official said. ....

As India s coronavirus situation worsens, Chris Lynn s suggestion that Cricket Australia could organise a chartered flight home for players competing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been branded absurd .
Despite India s recent insistence that it was in the endgame of its battle against COVID-19, the nation is battling a huge increase in coronavirus cases, escalating deaths and dwindling medical supplies.
India recorded 352,991 new infections and 2812 deaths on Monday, with their total number of cases approaching 18 million. A Delhi High Court hearing a special petition on the pandemic measures said on the weekend: We re calling it a wave, it s actually a tsunami. ....
