(WTVF) — The suspect accused of shooting and killing a Metro Schools employee now faces a federal gun possession charge. According to a release from U.S. Attorney Don Cochran’s office, 28-year-old Robert Rasean Smith was charged on Tuesday with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Metro police said Smith is accused of killing 31-year-old Rasheed Walker outside the Wireless Z store on Dr. D.B. Todd Junior Boulevard back in November. Walker was a teacher s aide at Cora Howe School for more than a decade.

Man charged in Rasheed Walker s North Nashville slaying facing federal firearms charge Natalie Neysa Alund, Nashville Tennessean Robert Rasean Smith, 28, of Nashville, was charged Tuesday with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, according to information from U.S. Attorney Don Cochran for the Middle District of Tennessee.   Metro Nashville police initially charged Smith in the Nov. 14 death of 31-year-old Rasheed Walker, who was shot outside his brother s North Nashville barbershop. According to the federal criminal complaint, Smith was wanted in Walker s killing on D.B. Todd Jr. Boulevard near 16th Avenue North. On Dec. 5, Metro police found Smith sleeping in a car in the area of Haynes Park Court and arrested him. At the time of his arrest, the complaint continues, Smith had a .45 caliber pistol in his waistband.
