A good night’s sleep will be hard to come by for 4500 homes between Grantham, Helidon, Laidley, Forest Hill and Gatton, a study has found. A draft environmental impact statement has revealed noise from the double-stacked freight trains will impact 175 houses. But that number is expected to soar as the population continues to boom, with the World Health Organisation predicting 4500 homes by 2040. Lockyer mayor Tanya Milligan said the impact of the Helidon to Calvert line would be “devastating for many in the region”. ....

On a busy 10-race card where exciting and close finishes dominated, Factory Warrior won by a half-head from an unlucky and fighting Mr Phenomenal ($13) with The Tax Accountant ($4.40) a nose away third. Factory Warrior is trained in Toowoomba, where Evans has been based for well over a decade by Mark Currie. ....

But the data shows that the average homeowner hangs onto their property for 19 years. Owners in the seaside hamlet of Lucinda (Townsville) and the rural locality of Buccan (Logan-Beaudesert) are also reluctant to leave, holding onto their homes for an average of 18 years, according to the data. Median house values in Lucinda sit at an affordable to $305,000, but those values have risen by 17.3 per cent over the year on the back of 15 sales. ....
Parts of Queensland are being warned of severe thunderstorms, damaging wind and large hail as rain and storms sweep across the nation s east coast. South-eastern parts of the state will be worst affected, with a severe weather warning issued at 10am this morning and in place until midnight. Forecasters are warning the deluge could cause flash flooding, with some parts of Brisbane and the Gold Coast already seeing up to 20mm of rain this morning and isolated areas up to 50mm.
