27 dogs that survived Texas polar vortex arrive in San Diego for adoption Helen Woodward Animal Center and last updated 2021-02-24 18:45:43-05 SAN DIEGO (KGTV) â Puppies and canines that survived the brutal cold that rolled over the midwest this month have arrived in San Diego for a second chance at finding their forever homes. The 12 puppies and 15 adult dogs arrived at Helen Woodward Animal Center on Wednesday morning from Texas. According to the center, the harsh weather that hit Texas froze pipes and knocked out electricity around Texas, including at Concho Valley Paws shelter where the dogs were staying. Despite the conditions and challenges traveling on roads, shelter workers were able to continue caring for the animals day in and day out. ....

The organization which, up to now, has offered 14 programs and services dedicated to helping animals and people, is now ready to make an even greater impact when disaster strikes with its own Emergency Response Unit and Rescue Team. Thanks to generous donors, the Linda C. Scott Fund for Animal Welfare held at The San Diego Foundation and the Alex and Elisabeth Lewyt Charitable Trust, the Center unveiled a state-of-the-art, 37-foot-long Rescue RV completely retrofitted with veterinary equipment and prepared to deploy to the rescue of animals in any part of the U.S. ....

Louis was brought to the Helen Woodward Animal Center in December 2020, after his previous owners removed his eyes because of an eye infection and found they couldn t care for a canine anymore. Louis was also hit by a car sometime around January 2020 and suffered a broken leg that never healed properly, the animal rescue said. ....
