Lombard s annual Lilac Time opened May 1 with blue skies and the scent of lilacs in the air.
Though the festival has been scaled back this year, Lilacia Park is still awash with blooms. Visitors are asked to wear face coverings and maintain a six-foot social distance.

During the next few months, the library will host a range of free activities for children, teens, and adults that encourage and support a love of learning. Participants also can win prizes for reaching their reading goals.
The broad motif of colors provides a context for exploring humanity, nature, culture, and science, as well as developing programming that demonstrates how libraries and reading can expand your world through kindness, growth, and community.

Lombard officials unanimously approved rezoning and sign ordinances to allow for a new Helen Plum Library building during a virtual village board meeting Thursday.
The two-story, 50,000-square-foot facility is budgeted at $27.8 million and is to be located at 401-425 S. Main St. The site is currently home to a shuttered Mr. Z s supermarket and a professional building.
The purchase of the land was contingent upon the library getting zoning approval from the village. The current library building at 110 W. Maple St. is to remain open while construction progresses on the new building, which is slated to open in fall 2022.
