On a bright, early morning in April, the usually sleepy Christchurch Terrace in the heart of Chelsea is alive with activity. Photographers are nipping to and fro along with chefs, designers and PRs. Local residents, who are used to a slower pace of life on this quiet street behind the King’s Road, peer interestedly out of their front doors. Although not due to open for another month, Christchurch Terrace’s much-loved pub, The Surprise, is already causing quite the commotion.

At the centre of the action is Jack Greenall, who is overseeing the relaunch of this Chelsea favourite since its doors were closed for good in September last year. And he’s more than up to the challenge: a scion of the Greenall Whitley brewing dynasty, Jack counts hospitality titan Lord Daresbury as an uncle and his family has been in the business of brewing and managing pubs since the 1750s. Already at the helm of The Pheasant Inn, a wil ....

Alderney, Channel Islands – the ultimate guide

Friday 16 April 2021
What a funny little island this is. What a curious, luminous, blusteringly beautiful speck of a place. Alderney is the Channel Island that no one has heard of. It is not the biggest one, or the smallest, or the one with famous cows or without any cars. Alderney is the beguiling one. The one you lose your heart to. It is like joining a secret society, flying here in a tinpot 12-seater, buffeted by every breeze. Three square miles, just off France – yet so much space, so much drama in its coastline, heart-skippingly beautiful beaches around every corner. The light! The colour! The sea is kingfisher blue. They say the waters flow all the way from the Caribbean on the Gulf Stream, accounting for the exotic shells along the shore, the dolphins and basking sharks who come for the sunny microclimate (islanders take a dip on New Year s Day). Summer lasts forever here, or seems to. It is not like Britain at all. (It is not, actually, Britain at all.) ....

Remain-backing Ocado chairman warns that Britain will see 'short-term' food shortages

Share
The issue of transport and hauliers not wanting to send their lorries here is because they are worried about their lorries being stuck and worried about lost profit, which means therefore the cost will be passed on to the consumer.
You will see some short-term shortages but let s be clear, there is not going to be a famine.
Food will continue to come in, although at this time of the year 50-80 per cent - plus of our fruit and veg comes in from Europe and beyond and a lot of that comes in through Dover on trucks.
