KNOXVILLE - Dallas R. (Tom) Franklin, of Knoxville, born on February 1, 1942, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. Tom’s three year battle with leukemia peacefully ended. Tom was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he had a successful 38 year, 6 months, and 10 day career. At the time of his retirement, Tom served as Postmaster of Morristown, TN. During his career he held several Postmaster positions and served as the Manager of Post Office Operations for the Nashville district while domiciled in Chattanooga, TN where he managed 106 post offices in TN and North Georgia. Tom was a mentor, a positive role model, and kind man to all to who knew him. He inspired and influenced many employees to achieve promotions and excel in their own career path. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran and of the Catholic faith. Preceded in death by mother and step-father, Ethel and Yates Biggs, Father, Donald Franklin, Brother, Tony Benedetto. Bernard Lown, an eminent cardiologist who forged a dual legacy in medicine and world affairs, pioneering lifesaving treatments for heart attacks and co-founding an international group of physicians that won a Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to end the nuclear arms race, died Feb. 16 at his home in Chestnut Hill, Mass. He was 99.
He had congestive heart failure, said a granddaughter, Ariel Lown Lewiton, adding that her grandfather oversaw his own medical treatment.
A Jewish immigrant from Lithuania, Dr. Lown came to the United States before the outbreak of World War II and taught himself English by memorizing the pages of a dictionary. ....

New street names celebrate Melrose Park’s rich history
Five new roads and a park in one of Sydney’s newest precincts, Melrose Park, will be named in honour of the area’s historic past – from its role in making Australia’s favourite jelly to entertaining locals with mini-golf.
City of Parramatta Council this week endorsed a selection of proposed names for the precinct, including Appleroth Street, a tribute to Adolphus Herbert Frederick Norman Appleroth, the creator of Aeroplane Jelly; Bundil Boulevard, in remembrance of Sally Bundil, a local Aboriginal woman born in the early 1800s; and Putt Putt Park, in recognition of the much-loved mini-golf course that was formerly located at the site between 1969 and 2016. ....
