Mumbai, May 21 : The Indian cricket board needs to strengthen womens multi-day domestic competition to prepare a formidable Test side, said former India woman cricketer and chief selector Hemlata Kala.
India are set to play two Tests this year, against England in June and a day-night match against Australia in September. If Tests are to become a permanent fixture in India women s calendar, the best way to scout and nurture talent would be through the multi-day domestic completion, said Lata, who was chief selector between from 2015 to 2020.

NEW DELHI: Former spinner Ramesh Powar on Thursday replaced W V Raman as the Indian women s cricket team s head coach, regaining the position more than two years after he was sacked owing to a bitter fallout with ODI captain Mithali Raj.
The 42-year-old was recommended by the Madan Lal-led Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) after interviewing eight candidates, including Raman. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announces the appointment of Mr Ramesh Powar as the Head Coach of Team India (Senior Women). The BCCI had advertised for the post and received over 35 applications, a BCCI statement read.
Shafali set to play for Birmingham franchise in The Hundred, may feature in Big Bash also
New Delhi, May 10: India’s teen batting sensation Shafali Verma is set to play for Birmingham Phoenix in the inaugural edition of The Hundred and might also turn up for a Sydney franchise in the Women’s Big bash League later in the year.
The 17-year-old, who is the world number one in ICC women’s T20I rankings, thus will join her skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, vive captain Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma in the 100-ball tournament involving eight men’s and women’s teams.
