It’s time to take a closer look at the interesting history of Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region. Today we’ll learn about the impact of Colorado Springs’ two Templetons and The Broadmoor’s now defunct ski resort. Templeton Gap From Gazette reader Diana Gantz: Was there an actual ‘gap’ that Templeton Gap was named after and if so, where is/was it? Was it named after someone? There were actually two people named Templeton with local roads or structures named after them. Templeton Gap was named after AJ Templeton, who was lured to the region during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush (1858-1861). He would later work a number of odd jobs, including as a law enforcement officer and as a rancher. A road, which is believed to be a preexisting Native American trail, connected Colorado Springs to Black Forest. The Templeton Ranch was nearby and the road was named after it. ....

The Central Washington county has about 243,000 residents and is probably most notable for producing the majority of the nation’s apples and hops. But it’s also where Henry Temple ‘21 and Isabel Gutierrez ‘23 call home. The two didn’t know each other growing up, and their paths have yet to cross, but coincidentally, they’ve both found themselves called to PLU. “I wanted to stay close-ish to home while still getting an experience of what it’s like to live in a different place,” Temple said of his decision to attend PLU. ....
