我们现在经常有机会重游伯明顿印第安纳大学（Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana), 越来越喜欢这座美国中西部的大学城了。IU拥有九位诺贝尔奖得主，仅此一项就甩很多国家几条街。我曾经在参观University of Oklahoma, Norman后，感叹西部牛仔在建州的同时也不忘记建大学教育自己的后代，其实美国很多地方都是这样，包括相对保守的印第安纳。
我在群里或朋友圈帖出这些图片让大家猜是哪里时，居然很多人认为是耶鲁大学或圣路易斯华大，当我说出是印第安纳大学后，应该让朋友们相当吃惊。美国以前恐怕只有那些名牌大学的毕业生统治着学术界，现在完全不同了，高傲的耶鲁历史系主任就是州大毕业生。正要离开我们科的助理教授位置去宾大做副教授的同事也是州大的，他�
