Hendrik Lesser will be joining us as our Chair, whilst Christian Kleissl will be taking the position of our finance director. Both of these experienced executives are part of the leadership of Remote Control Productions, the Munich-based development collective, which has been stillalive’s strategic partner since our founding in 2013. ....
With 51% of Europe s population and more than 2.2 billion people around the world playing video games, driving diversity and inclusion in the sector is not only commercially imperative, it is the socially responsible thing to do the right thing to do. The video game industry is unique: nowhere else do so many people from so many different backgrounds come together to play, to experience stories together or compete with one another. If the games we make do not represent society, the sector will not grow and our innovations and opportunities to help people connect will have less impact. We need our players to relate to our games, whatever their race, gender, orientation, religion or skin colour and for games to be diverse, the people who make, publish and market them need to be diverse too. ....
As 2020 draws to a close, many will reflect on 12 months defined by stress, upheaval, and the urgent need to confront some difficult truths about the way the games industry operates, and the myriad ways it can be a better and more inclusive place. But just as that process of self-examination is necessary, so too is recognition for those already working to solve those problems.
