The borough saw 14 new cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people in the seven days to April 29, according to the latest data. It was the seventh-lowest rate in London and down by 53 per cent on the figure recorded at the end of March. The first stage of the Government’s “roadmap” out of lockdown began more than eight weeks ago, when schools opened their doors to all pupils. ....
Hadley Wood High Barnet and Hadley The worst-hit part of the borough was Hendon Central, which recorded 12 new cases of the virus. Schools opened their doors to all pupils on March 8 in the first stage of the Government’s “roadmap” out of lockdown. Prime Minister Boris Johnson last week warned this could have an impact on the spread of the virus. The next stage of the lockdown lifting is due to take place on March 29. It will see the end of the “stay at home” rule, outdoor socialising allowed between two households following the “rule of six”, and outdoor sports facilities able to reopen. ....

The latest data shows six areas in the borough where fewer than three new cases of the virus were recorded in the week to February 25 – the lowest case numbers provided by the Government. Despite the falling cases, council leader Cllr Dan Thomas last week warned Barnet was “not in the clear yet” and the return to normality would involve “gradual changes”. ....
