Washington Stops Governor Boys Bid For Another Upset

Pierre, SD, USA / DRGNews Feb 4, 2021 9:00 PM PIERRE – Top-ranked Sioux Falls Washington stopped the Pierre Governors in boys basketball 68-53 Thursday at the Riggs High Gym, two nights after Pierre stunned Mitchell on the road. Eli Williams led the Warriors with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting.  He hit two three-pointers and had four rebounds, three assists and two steals.  Mikele Kamablo scored 17 with four three-pointers.  Angok Akot added 11. Lincoln Kienholz and Jackson Edman each tallied 11 points for Pierre (5-8).  Edman had nine rebounds; Kienholz had five.  Houston Lunde scored 10. Governors Play Better, But Fall At RCC

Pierre, SD, USA / DRGNews Jan 9, 2021 6:00 PM RAPID CITY – While Pierre Governor boys basketball played better on Saturday, the effort still was not enough to stop their losing streak.  Rapid City Central outlasted Pierre 66-59 at Naasz Gym to extend the Governors’ skid to three games. Pierre (1-5) led for portions of a game that included eight lead changes, but Central pulled away just enough at the finish, led by 31 points from Micah Swallow.  He was 13-of-18 shooting with three three-pointers, seven rebounds and four steals.  Lincoln Kienholz paced the Governors with 21 points, five three-pointers, three assists and two steals.  Houston Lunde hit three from long range and scored 13 points.  Jackson Edman added 12.  Overall, the Governors shot 42 percent from the field and hit nine three-pointers.

Last-Second Shot By Watertown Spoils Governors Home Opener

Pierre, SD, USA / DRGNews Dec 12, 2020 10:00 PM PIERRE – Pierre couldn’t hold a 16-point lead Saturday in the boys basketball home opener at the Riggs High gym and fell to Watertown 59-58 when the Arrows’ Drew Norberg hit the winning three-pointer just before the final buzzer. The Governors (0-2) led 46-30 in the third quarter before Watertown rallied. Lincoln Kienholz led Pierre with 14 points and hit a three-pointer. Jackson Edman scored 11 with seven rebounds and three blocks. Matthew Hanson and Houston Lunde each scored eight. Hanson hit two go-ahead free throws after being fouled with 5.4 seconds left to break a 56-56 tie. Lunde hit two three-pointers.
