Man falls, has seizure at Water Wheel Sunday

On Sunday, just before 4 p.m., Tonto Rim Search and Rescue was dispatched to Water Wheel off Houston Mesa Road for a man who had fallen and hit his head.
The man was unconscious for a while, but had come to by the time TRSAR volunteers arrived. Water Wheel Fire and Medical District firefighters were already on scene when TRSAR arrived and had tended to the man, who was visiting the area with his family. They were reportedly from the Valley.
When the man came to, he had a seizure, which was ânot a common thing for him,â said Bill Pitterle, TRSAR commander. ....

Payson, AZ, hike to East Verde River avoids Water Wheel crowds

From its source on the Mogollon Rim near Washington Park north of Payson, the East Verde River flows southwest through Tonto National Forest, feeding a gorgeous swath of greenery before merging with the Verde River.
Over its 34-mile length, the central Arizona waterway cuts through a transitional landscape where the desert creeps up against sheer rock escarpments at the edge of the Colorado Plateau, trickling down from an environment of tall pines and forest lakes into high desert scrub and the rugged backcountry of the Mazatzal Wilderness.

I love stream improvements. Some are quite simple in design, while others require a great deal of work to install. They are all helpful for fish and fishers.
Trout benefit from these structures as they improve conditions in streams. Sometimes their purpose is to narrow the creek to increase depth, while other improvements provide cover, or enhance poor habitat.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) has installed stream improvements on several Rim Country streams over the years, so I am always on the lookout for them when fishing. I know these structures are a great attractor for fish, so I spend extra time fishing around them. If I am not careful in my approach, they are also the first place that trout will swim to seek cover if they have been cruising in the open water nearby. ....

Snowmageddon 2021 hits Pine-Strawberry

We needed moisture, and we got it. The National Weather Service in Flagstaff reports that from early Monday morning to late Tuesday afternoon, Pine-Strawberry received 24 inches of snow, 3 inches over the yearly average for the community.
I know many of you measured more than that, and in some areas that is possible. The NWS is forecasting another 1 to 3 inches Friday.
