Houston's Midtown Innovation District Is Taking Shape, Despite Controversy

If you’ve driven by Midtown on Interstate-69, you’ve probably seen the big new, shiny glass building on Main Street.
The Ion, now scheduled to open this fall, is the heart of Houston’s new innovation district, housed in the former Sears building that stood on the southern tip of what today is considered Midtown for nearly 80 years until it closed in 2018. Rather than razing the four-story building, the developer, Rice Management Company, is adding a fifth floor and remodeling it.

Houston is hosting a bit of a tech takeover next week.

For the second year, Houston Exponential has tapped into the Houston innovation ecosystem to coordinate a week of events to speak to the city s startups, investors, and startup development organizations.
Houston Tech Rodeo will feature over 160 events between May 16 to 23 both online and all across town. From panels and meetups to office hours and pitch events, there s a lot to navigate in the second annual week.
