Two killed as late evening rainfall in Karachi brings respite from sweltering heat July 16, 2021 KARACHI: The people of the city had to endure another day of hardship following the late evening rain on Thursday. The rain also turned the weather pleasant giving a much-needed respite from the day-long hot and humid weather. Two people also died in rain related accidents. The temperatures in Karachi soared 40C with 40pc humidity, making it extremely uncomfortable but the intermittent rain that started around 8pm and continued throughout till the early hours of Friday, brought some relief with the usual urban flooding that the city’s often encroached and blocked drains cause. The result was that motorists witnessed traffic jams on most of the major arteries of the city due to inundation by the rain and overflowing sewage. Sindh to constitute commission for permanent solution to unauthorised constructions in city July 1, 2021 Murtaza Wahab, the adviser to the Sindh chief minister on law and environment, has said it is unreasonable to demolish in 2021 the constructions carried out in Karachi under the policy adopted in the year 2004-05 to commercialise a number of thoroughfares in the city. Wahab, who also acts as the spokesman for the Sindh government, made this statement on Wednesday while talking to media persons as he inaugurated an urban forest project at the Government Elementary College of Education, Hussainabad, along with singer and social activist Shehzad Roy. ....
June 30, 2021 Federal and provincial investigation agencies have launched joint and separate investigations into the theft of medicines from public hospitals in Sindh a day after the National Task Force against Spurious Drugs of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) recovered a huge quantity of medicines during raids on shops and warehouses in the Katchi Gali medicine market and Hussainabad areas of Karachi, officials said on Tuesday. The administrations of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi have also initiated internal inquiries after DRAP officials claimed that medicines stolen from these health facilities were seized during raids, which were clearly stamped ‘Sindh government property’ and ‘NICVD’, but argued that the theft of medicines from their health facilities was not possible. ....
