Just south of Traverse City lies Hoosier Valley, an area known by locals for its natural beauty.

Blair Town Hall Road rides right along the valley, and the deeper in you get, the more you sink into nature. The road shifts from pavement, to gravel, to a dirt path.

These are two-tracks: largely unlabeled back roads traversed by four-wheelers, snowmobiles and pick-up trucks and people who come to Hoosier Valley to dump their trash.

He recently bought a four-wheeler and has been riding it up and down the two-tracks with his son.

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. – The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum is set to restore Monon DS-50, one of Indiana’s famous diesel locomotives.
The Monon DS-50 is a 600-horsepower SW1 diesel, built in 1942 by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors, according to Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum. It was also the first diesel locomotive on the Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville Railway. ....

Dozens of volunteers arrived with four-wheelers, trucks, and trailers to clean up the area.

“I m disappointed in the people and I m upset with the people that are doing it,” Leavitt says. “I don t believe that they re making an effort to find an alternate way of getting rid of it.”
For years, Hoosier Valley has been the target for dumpers. It’s secluded paths and close proximity to Traverse City make it an easy place for people to unload unwanted trash. ....

2 Traverse City Business Owners Plan to Clean Up Hoosier Valley

Two Traverse City business owners are teaming up to clean up some local snowmobile trails and seasonal roads, and they’re looking for help.
The owners of Affordable Roadside Assistance and Vision Landscaping are looking to use their company trucks to haul out old furniture, appliances and other trash along the seasonal roads and trails in the Hoosier Valley area south of Traverse City.
But in order to cover the estimated $3,500 disposal fee for all that trash, they’re asking for donations on Gofundme.com.
“Being in the landscaping business, of course, is making things look nice is what my job is but, going out there and seeing it out there. I mean, it’s been going on for years, but for it to stay clean and hopefully inspire the rest of the area to clean up and make it look better than what it is.” ....
