But Bedford High School students Ilana Ravindra and Hussein Jomaa are looking beyond themselves. The sophomore class student council president and vice president, respectively, Ravindra and Jomaa noticed that their school did not have any plans in place to formally recognize the annual celebration of Black History Month this February. “Our school has never recognized it as a whole,” Ravindra explained. “It’s taught in different curriculums in our school, in different history classes, but they don’t go above and beyond. Hussein and I saw an issue, and we wanted our school to celebrate it. “Our school is predominantly white, our community has mostly whites in it. We don’t have that much diversity in our school and our community, and we wanted to teach kids that America has so much diversity.” ....
