(CNN) Up until recently, many travelers visiting India s famed monument of love, the Taj Mahal, would also add a stop at the nearby Sheroes Hangout to their itinerary.
Located just a few kilometers from the famed Indian icon in the northern city of Agra, this cafe is managed and staffed by acid attack survivors.
Most of the smiling women working in the venue, founded by India s Chhanv Foundation in 2014, have visibly scarred skin, some bearing damaged eyes, others appearing as if their entire faces have been melted by the horrifying acts of violence. ....

Lucknow /Agra : , June 3 (IANS) In a heart-warming gesture, the acid attack survivors of the now closed Sheroes Hangout Cafe in Agra have started a free food service for the poor from the donations they got to restart the eatery.
The 30-odd acid attack survivors who worked at the cafe, are now busy preparing food and distributing it to the poor on the streets.
Their initiative began last month when the Sheroes of Agra and Lucknow cafes came together to help the underprivileged. ....

The kitchen staff of the Sheroes cafe prepares food with the utmost care of hygiene. And to ensure that we use hand sanitiser, face mask, hand gloves and safely deliver food packets on a daily basis, Mr Shukla said.
Sharing her experience, Roopa, who works at the cafe, said that on Wednesday food packets were distributed to patients at the District Hospital and children who live on footpaths on MG Road.
This work makes me and my team happy as we are able to bring a smile to the faces of the needy people during this pandemic, Roopa, an acid attack survivor, said. ....
