Last month Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, teased a “realistic, working, retractable lightsaber prototype” and yesterday we finally got a sneak peek. In a 14-second teaser for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, a Disney cast member dressed as Rey, demonstrates what appears to be a real lightsaber. As Rey turns, the blade rises smoothly from the hilt accompanied by the iconic lightsaber sound. The announcement doesn’t give us any details on how the retractable lightsabers actually work, but internet sleuths have managed to piece together a rough idea based on a patent filing. Walt Disney World Resort s Galactic Starcruiser hotel is set to open in Orlando in 2022. ....
Heather du Plessis-Allan: Where s the real criticism of NZ and Five Eyes coming from? 24 Apr, 2021 05:00 PM 4 minutes to read Nanaia Mahuta greets her Australian counterpart Marise Payne this week. Photo / Getty NZ Herald COMMENT Australia s Foreign Minister Marise Payne seems to have settled it. The warnings that New Zealand could be thrown out of the Five Eyes alliance over Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta s speech appear overblown. Of course Payne was always going to be diplomatic. Heather du Plessis-Allan: The return of Simon Bridges 17 Apr, 2021 05:00 PM 4 minutes to read Simon Bridges talking to the media before the Tuesday caucus at Parliament in Wellington. Photo / Mark Mitchell Simon Bridges talking to the media before the Tuesday caucus at Parliament in Wellington. Photo / Mark Mitchell COMMENT It s possible there s a level of sympathy for Simon Bridges lately. Cut free of the burden of leadership, he s bounced back and reminded us just how good a politician he can be. He s scored headlines, strolled with yaks, and shown a bit of humour. And cut free of his leadership, National s had the opposite experience. Its popularity has crashed. ....
