NORTHAMPTON The Police Department marked an historic milestone last week as it works to hire more female officers.
From 11 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday, a patrol shift was composed of all women for the first time in the city’s history.
The Police Department said Officer Ariangna Gonzalez, Officer Jessica Sullivan, Officer Rachel Bunce, Officer Heather Longley, and Officer Lauren Bolduc worked the midnight shift that night.

Anson and Solon report full Town Meeting results; Mercer conducts election, with Town Meeting in April

Anson and Solon held their annual Town Meetings in two parts Saturday, while Mercer residents voted in the town’s municipal election.

Town Clerk Leslie Giroux wrote in an email that all 34 articles passed with “little discussion or opposition.” Voters approved a $1,790,407 budget.
The three municipal official positions up for election retained their positions.
Wayne “Chip” Johnson was reelected to the Board of Selectmen, while Gary Bishop continues as road commissioner.
Driver who hit man at Northampton bus stop gets 2 years

NORTHAMPTON A 26-year-old Northampton man was sentenced to two years in jail on Monday for driving a stolen car into a downtown bus stop and severely injuring a man who had been sleeping there before taking off and leading police on a high-speed chase last June.
In a virtual hearing, Christopher Durham pleaded guilty in Northampton District Court to leaving the scene of personal injury, leaving the scene of property damage, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, and driving with a suspended license. The prosecution and the defense agreed to the jail sentence, and Durham participated from the county jail in Ludlow where he has been held since his arraignment in October. The hearing was presided over by Judge Laurie MacLeod.
