Roughly 35 to 50 people had been living there, some for as long as a year. This will be the third massive sweep in just five months, following the November eviction at Hillsborough Superior Court North, where more than 50 people were violently removed by State Police. About 20 people were hastily evicted from the the Amoskeag Bridge in February following a fire at the campsite. “We are continuously seeing folks being pushed out from place to place,” said Alice, a local volunteer with New Hampshire Mutual Aid Relief Fund. “But you can’t just push out a group of people and ignore that they exist. They will exist, either that or they die. There’s only so many places left for them to go.” ....
Monadnock Ledger-Transcript Published: 4/14/2021 4:24:20 PM The Town of Peterborough denied all claims alleged by Walden Eco Village landlord Akhil Garland after it became a third-party defendant in the ongoing lawsuit between Garland and former Eco Village tenants, according to court documents filed at the end of March. Garland’s representatives alleged that the town knew and supported the activities on the Eco Village site and was therefore responsible for the damages claimed by the former tenants, who were evicted on five days’ notice in December 2020 after the town found safety and code violations on site, including missing building permits for eight of 15 total rental units. The Court agreed to add the town to the ongoing case on March 26. Peterborough’s lawyer, John Ratigan, declined to comment on the suit. ....
Monadnock Ledger-Transcript Published: 10/19/2020 6:19:25 PM Peterborough’s former recreation director is continuing to challenge the town’s decision to fire him last year, alleging in court documents the town disliked him mixing his volunteerism with the local Boy Scout Troop with his recreation duties. Jeff King has filed a wrongful dismissal suit against the town, and is seeking payment for accrued unused leave time. The suit which was originally dismissed by the Hillsborough County Superior Court, but King has since appealed that decision, and the case is currently scheduled for a jury selection in May of 2021. In court documents, the town of Peterborough states that they investigated King after receiving complaints from members of the public, and during the investigation, found photographs that Deputy Town Administrator Nicole MacStay found “prurient” on his computer.
