Police identify pedestrian killed on New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring

No charges filed against the driver

Montgomery County police say a Washington, D.C., woman was the pedestrian killed on Thursday when a pickup truck hit her in the Hillandale area of Silver Spring.
Zoila Hermelinda Cruz de Dominguez, 75, was trying to cross northbound New Hampshire Avenue just after 9 p.m. Thursday.
She was hit by a 2017 Toyota Tacoma driven by 64-year-old Philip James of Silver Spring, police said in a press release on Friday.
Cruz de Dominguez was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. James was not injured.
James has not been charged in the crash, which is still under investigation, police spokeswoman Sgt. Rebecca Innocenti said on Friday. ....

DUNWOODY, GA While U.S. coronavirus cases and deaths have been trending downward over the past week, hospitals across the country still report straining to meet the demands of the ongoing pandemic.
At the national level, during the week ending Jan. 25, deaths were running at an average of just under 3,100 a day down from a peak of more than 3,350 in the weeks prior, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. New cases were averaging about 170,000 a day after hitting almost 250,000 earlier this month.
Meanwhile, state health officials in Georgia reported to the federal government that 83 percent of all inpatient beds in hospitals across the state were still occupied as of Jan. 23. Around 28 percent of beds statewide were filled by COVID-19 patients, they reported. ....

Man Killed in Hillandale Hit-and-Run, Police Search for Victim's Family Members

A man died after a hit-and-run crash Friday night in Maryland and police are searching for the victim s family members to aid in their investigation.
Mark C. Henderson was crossing New Hampshire Avenue near Elton Road in Hillandale at about 8:15 p.m. A driver traveling south on New Hampshire Avenue struck Henderson and then fled the area, Montgomery County Police said.
Henderson died of his injuries at the scene of the crash. He was 66.
The victim, Mark C. Henderson, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2021 after he was hit by a driver who fled the scene in Hillandale. ....
