Greyhound and Citliner’s financial woes weren’t caused by COVID-19, but clearly the pandemic didn’t help.
“Declining passenger numbers and poor regulatory compliance in the bus passenger industry has resulted in both our brands - Greyhound and Citiliner - incurring significant losses for several years,” said Unitrans Passenger in a media statement about those two coach brands coming to a permanent stop from February 15.

AS usual, we start the column with Covid-19-related aspects whose havoc is now being felt in the country’s economy as figures continue to rise at an alarming rate the world over and Zimbabwe is not an exception.
This second wave of the pandemic, which some have nicknamed “Covid-21”, continues to leave most industries on their knees while thousands of jobs are on the tenterhooks.
As stated in previous Travelling and Touring articles, the tourism industry will certainly continue singing the blues until the proverbial cows come home.

The KwaZulu-Natal government has committed to working with Durban s Hilton Hotel in an attempt to ensure it reopens its doors soon.
It emerged on Saturday that the city s iconic landmark, situated next to the International Convention Centre (ICC), will shut its doors, temporarily.
The hotel’s online bookings are suspended from Monday January 11. It is unclear when the hotel intends to reopen. MEC for economic development, tourism and environmental affairs Ravi Pillay on Sunday said, together with other spheres of government, including the eThekwini Municipality, “we will continue working with the Hilton to ensure that we find solutions and to ensure they reopen their doors soon”.
Durban s Hilton Hotel
The Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal said on Sunday it has noted with regret, the business decision by the iconic Hilton Durban Hotel to close its doors.
“The Department understands the pressures facing the establishment and was involved in interventions to try and the avert the closure. The department is concerned that this closure will have a negative impact on jobs. Together with other spheres of government, including the eThekwini Municipality we will continue working with the Hilton to ensure that we find solutions and to ensure they re-open their doors soon.
