Why Barbara Neely Is Indeed a Grand Master By Oline H Cogdill Mystery fiction has been a major part of my life since I was a child. I’ve said so many times that I have never read a Nancy Drew or a Hardy Boys I started with Agatha Christie, Rex Stout, etc. In the beginning, these were just entertaining stories, puzzles to figure out, characters who didn’t resemble anyone I knew. But as I got older, mysteries began to encompass new writers who introduced readers to different worlds. (Thank you, Sue Grafton, Sara Paretsky, Marcia Muller.) One of those authors who brought readers to another world was Barbara Neely, who has been named the 2020 Grand Master by Mystery Writers of America (MWA). The 2020 Raven Award recipient is Left Coast Crime, and Kelley Ragland will receive the Ellery Queen Award at the 74th Annual Edgar Awards Banquet, which will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City on April 30, 2020. ....
GRANVILLE During its colorful history, the Italianate-style, 1860s Bryn Du Mansion has served dinner to presidents (Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover) and tea to celebrities (Lillian Gish, Katharine Cornell); hosted pianists (Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Sergei Rachmaninoff) and functioned as a breeding and training ground for show horses, not to mention polo games on the great lawn. Throughout the first floor of the mansion as well as online more than 80 works by 79 artists can be enjoyed. Selected from more than 500 submissions by juror Lisa McLymont, a Columbus artist, the works are by a variety of national artists and refl ....
Newark Advocate It was important, Bryn Du officials say, to have the Granville mansion’s annual art show this year, albeit for the second time under pandemic conditions – important for the community, and for area and other artists. The 17th Annual Bryn Du Art Show kicked off Friday, March 5, and will run through March 27, in both an in-person format, and for those who aren’t comfortable attending in-person, a virtual format, as well, according to Angela Katona, Mansion Program and Promotions Coordinator. Katona said this year’s show consists of 81 pieces by 79 artists. “The juror this year really tried to spread the love and make sure as many artists could be represented as possible,” she said. ....
