"Book Battle" For Nipher, Hixson Students | Webster Kirkwood Times


 
Student teams from Nipher Middle School in Kirkwood and Hixson Middle School in Webster Groves recently competed in the annual area-wide “Middle School Book Battle” at Pattonville Heights Middle School.
Teams of students from 24 area schools came together virtually for this year’s competition on May 5. Nipher’s team took first place and Hixson’s team came in third.
The “Middle School Book Battle” gives middle school students the opportunity to meet and discuss current books of interest. The committee creates a list of 20 books that includes a variety of genres and reading levels. The committee also develops questions for each book that are formatted so each answer is the title and author of a book on the list.  ....

Schools Welcome Back Some Special Events


Webster Groves High School feels a little more like normal lately, according to Superintendent John Simpson. At a board of education meeting on Thursday, April 8, Simpson praised staff members for their role in welcoming high schoolers back for extended in-person learning.
Full normalcy is even more forthcoming with a return to second semester special events. Simpson gave few details but said the district will try to allow as many events as possible, including senior prom. He said the experience will be “very different” from past years, and will be held on the upper tier of Busch Stadium with COVID precautions in place. ....

Hamilton County Schools Partners With PEF To Expand Access To eLabs

The Public Education Foundation, in partnership with Hamilton County Schools, announced a $1 million investment from an anonymous donor to open 15 new eLabs in HCS and to support the further development of the world-leading eLab network. 
 
Officials said, HCS eLabs provide students with rich learning opportunities in engineering, computing and environmental technology through hands-on activities with digital fabrication equipment (including 3D printing, micro-computing and robotics).
Now, more than ever, students need opportunities to develop knowledge and skills in science, technology, and innovation. The HCS eLabs provide a state-of-the-art learning environment where students can hone those skills as they develop resiliency and confidence solving real-world problems. ....
