In the last year, people have had a glimpse into the opportunities that remote work can afford them, such as nonexistent commute times, flex time, and increased productivity. Among the important points announced today:

• The president and deans have 
promised to hold an in-person ceremony for the classes of 2020 and 2021 at some future time, when public-health conditions permit (and, presumably, when the considerable infrastructure for a Harvard Commencement is in place, at the end of spring semesters, able to do double- or triple-duty). As Bacow put it, “[P]lease know that one day we will welcome the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021 back to campus for an unforgettable and unforgettably joyous Commencement.” ....

Religious Groups Keep Faith During Pandemic, Remote Academic Year | News


D. Anthony Alvarez ’21, a member of the Harvard Latter-day Saints Student Association, has attended religious services at the same congregation off campus since he arrived at Harvard as a freshman.
This semester, Alvarez said he still attends services at that same congregation. Amid Covid-19, though, he must sign up to attend ahead of time, don a mask, and eschew singing, which can spread infectious particles.
As the College approaches the first anniversary of sending students home due to the pandemic, students said they have adopted new ways to practice their faith in the Covid-19 era, including attending reduced-capacity services, convening for religious conversations over Zoom, and seeking support from Harvard chaplains. ....

A grandson of a renowned Korean independence fighter said Thursday that he had sent a letter to Harvard University s president to end any discussions about donating his historical archives due to a professor s article depicting Japan s wartime sexual slavery as voluntary prostitution.
In an email and phone interview with Yonhap News Agency, Philip Ahn Cuddy, the grandson of Ahn Chang-ho who fiercely fought against Japan s 1910-45 colonization, revealed that he wrote the letter to President Lawrence S. Bacow to terminate the talks in direct consequence of J. Mark Ramseyer s inappropriate academic writing. ....
