MILFORD - Pike County Commissioners, April 7, issued several proclamations, bringing recognition to the value of public libraries; sexual assault awareness; child abuse prevention and senior volunteers.
Libraries
A resolution was passed for National Libraries Week. Rose Ciocchi, director of Pike County Public Library, welcomed the public to stop in at the library. Face masks are required. There are no in-person programs at this time, but they have a lot of virtual programming, online. Examples are Story Time and various book clubs.
She said that attendance is down, but since the COVID-19 pandemic started, e-resource usage has almost doubled. The Library is investing more money into electronic resources and is partnering with library systems in Wayne, Lackawanna, Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties. ....

Public comment period on Milford master plan to begin Jan. 15

The draft of Milford’s proposed comprehensive plan will go up for review on Jan. 15 with an eye toward making a final presentation to the borough on March 16 for potential adoption.
Simone Collins Landscape Architecture is developing the plan and reviewing it with the comprehensive plan committee, which includes the Milford Borough Council, Mayor Sean Strub, local business people, and planners.
The public will have 45 days, from Jan. 15 through March 1, to submit comments to Simone Collins, which held its third and final public meeting online on Dec. 16 and further outlined the plan’s goals in seven areas: land use, transportation, open space and recreation, community facilities, resources, housing, and economic development. ....

It was difficult to keep up with the closures in our weekly roundups, but there were also a healthy number of openings. Of course, the restaurants that did open weren’t greeted by the most favourable dining landscape.
Despite stopgap measures like government relief and new takeout and delivery offerings, many Toronto restaurants and bars closed their doors for good during the pandemic.
The trend was Canada-wide. On December 16, Restaurants Canada said that since March 2020, 10,000 restaurants have closed across Canada. In Ontario alone, the sector has lost 19 per cent of jobs and 25 per cent in revenue since February, the industry group said. ....
