Why Hull officials are issuing warnings about jellyfish sightings


HULL  The bloom of the stinging lion s mane jellyfish was so pervasive in Duxbury last year that the town s lifeguards made a permanent addition to their first aid kits  spray bottles of vinegar.
Assistant Recreation Director Steve Studley said there have not been any sightings, or reports of stings, yet this year.
Let s cross our fingers, he said. It s all quiet on that front.
But further north in Hull, state and local officials are already issuing warnings.
In an advisory last week, the state Department of Conservation and Recreation said the jellyfish have been spotted at Nantasket Beach and purple flags have been raised to indicate dangerous marine life. ....

Two surfers rescued off Green Harbor Beach in Marshfield

Two surfers were rescued off Green Harbor Beach in Marshfield late Tuesday afternoon after they apparently got caught up in the changing tides, town officials said.
The surfers, a man and a woman from Falmouth, were found clinging to each other in the water about 200 yards offshore when a harbormaster’s boat reached them shortly after 4 p.m., officials said.
One of their boards had snapped in half and the other was lost in the water. They were evaluated at the scene for signs of hypothermia and declined to be transported to a hospital, Fire Capt. Craig Robinson said. ....
