Pet of the Week: Delta

Say howdy to Delta, the Pet of the Week, who’s available through Heartland Small Animal Rescue. Delta is about 1 to 2 years old and is a German shepherd mix. She weighs just under 50 pounds. Delta came to her foster home when she was pregnant and confused. It wasn’t long until she had some very cute puppies, and Delta was a great mom. She is now ready for her forever home. Delta is housetrained and walks great on a leash. She is a sweet and smart dog but needs to learn a few manners, so she’ll need an experienced owner. Delta can be with other dogs as long as they are very mellow, although a home with no dogs would be preferred. Delta has a lot of energy and needs an owner who can keep up with her. If that sounds like you, contact Heartland.

What to do when you spot a bunny nest in the wild

What to do when you spot a bunny nest in the wild By: Mathew Quijano Photo courtesy: The Heartland Small Animal Rescue The Heartland Small Animal Rescue in South Bend posted to Facebook on Saturday advice on what to do when you spot a bunny nest in the wild. With spring coming, bunny nests will appear and may look abandoned but this is not the case. The mother visits the nest at dawn and dusk to care for the bunnies. If she stays around it will draw unwanted attention to the nest. The organization advises to not disturb the nest and to call your local animal control who can connect you to a proper rehab center if the animals are injured.
