This seasoned group of Tulsa musicians has been playing together live for a few years, but their new self-titled album is their first as a band. Recorded as live cuts at Black Box Studio and released in January on Tulsa’s nonprofit Horton Records label, Saugeye  showcases several original tunes, along with covers of songs by acclaimed singer songwriter, Malcolm Holcombe, and several talents who are no longer with us, such as Tulsa musician and luthier Dixie Michell, Red Dirt legend Brandon Jenkins, and hitmaker Bill Withers.
“Another Lifetime” is the final track on the release.
“This song idea came to me while playing a show at 18th & Boston in Tulsa a few years back,” says Tyler in a statement. “I eventually finished it with my co-writing friend, Jamie Kindleyside. We tried to express the simple hope that comes from being in the moment with someone who really needs it, and then from there the song took on its own meaning.” ....

We re glad to welcome back to our program the Tulsa-based guitarist, composer, and music producer Chris Combs, who s known for his work with COMBSY, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, and other jazz/experimental/multi-genre outfits. Combs tells us about (and shares tracks from) his forthcoming album, Roche Blave: Large Ensemble Works Recorded Live in Switzerland, which will be released by the nonprofit Horton Records on April 30th. This recording documents a remarkable, hitherto-unreleased live performance from 2012, for which Combs was commissioned to write music for an international jazz festival in Bern, Switzerland. As Combs tells us, his writing for this concert was very much inspired by the jazz-meets-classical compositions of Charles Mingus, Duke Ellington, Ornette Coleman, and others. ....

When “Coming 2 America,” the sequel to
Eddie Murphy’s popular 1988 comedy, debuts on Amazon Prime on March 5, expect to see some familiar faces. Original cast members Murphy,
Arsenio Hall and
Tori Ruffin.
Thirty years ago, Ruffin had just moved to Los Angeles and joined a band with some old friends. 
“Our drummer’s day gig was as the driver for (film director)
John Landis,” Ruffin recounts.
Landis was looking for a band to back Eddie Murphy’s alter ego, cheesy soul singer Randy Watson, for a scene in the movie, and Ruffin soon found himself on a Hollywood set playing guitar in the fictional band Sexual Chocolate.  ....
