People gathered Saturday at the historic Ryman Auditorium for a postponed celebration of life for Lewis due to the pandemic. FOX 17 s Harriet Wallace lead the welcome, while attendees listened to remarks from speakers like Nancy Pelosi (recorded), Mayor John cooper and State Senator Brenda Gilmore. Lewis is best known for his iconic role in the civil rights movement, both nationwide and here in Nashville. Other events held in Lewis honor included a Saturday march and unveiling of Rep. FOX 17 News can confirm that Delke’s legal team has reached a plea agreement with the District Attorney’s office. A source close to the case says Delke has agreed to serve three years for the July 2018 shooting of Hambrick. He is the first Metro officer to be charged with murder following an officer involved shooting. ....

Margaret Carmona snapped photos of dozens of Cicadas near her home in the Washington County/Green County area on Monday. These Cicadas are emerging after 17 years underground. When the entire brood emerges, backyards can look like undulating waves, and the bug chorus is lawnmower loud. The University of Tennessee’s Institute of Agriculture says multiple swarms of 17-year and 13-year Cicadas are projected to emerge in the Volunteer State over the next several years. When Cicadas come to town – residents know it and it’s something that sticks with them. The high-pitched, shrill sounding songs of these insects always creates a buzz. ....

(WZTV) State lawmakers recently admitted the state owed Tennessee State University millions of dollars after not giving the school money promised to fund its agricultural department. TSU is one of two agriculture universities in the state that for decades has been part of the federal land grant program. As part of that program, TSU was to receive the federal land grant which was to also be matched by the state. Tennessee’s other land grant university, U.T. Knoxville is part of the same program. A special legislative committee found while the state often withheld the funding from TSU, UT always got its money, sometimes more. ....
