SEATTLE They walked in on their own: the first wolves in more than 100 years known to call Washington state home, after this native species was nearly wiped out by hunting, trapping and government extermination campaigns.
Today, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife kills wolves only when they have repeatedly killed cattle, a relatively rare event, with about 80% of Washington wolf packs typically staying out of trouble with people. ....

Patricia Grace turns her pen on herself


We’re here to talk about her memoir,
From the Centre: A Writer’s Life,​ which will be launched at the Auckland Writers​ Festival, where she is one of the guest speakers. Grace is one of New Zealand/Aotearoa’s most celebrated Māori fiction authors, who, over five decades, has won national and international awards for her work, including the Neustadt International Prize for Literature​ (considered the most prestigious literary prize after the Nobel).
She was made​ a distinguished companion​ of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to literature in 2007.
Grace is known for being self-effacing and it was her publisher, Harriet Allan, of Penguin Random House, who suggested she write a memoir. Mission: Impossible director thanks North Yorkshire village used during filming


Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie has thanked the “incredibly lovely and welcoming” residents of a North Yorkshire village where scenes for the film have been shot.
Tom Cruise and hundreds of members of the movie’s film crew were last week pictured in the village of Levisham near Pickering.
The actor is reprising his role as spy Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible 7.
McQuarrie wrote on Instagram: “What would Mission be without a bit of local color?
