Twin off TikTok AS TOLD TO BC PIRES My name is Skye Lowden-Blaber and I have come off TikTok because I think it’s toxic. Even if my twin sister and I have had millions of views of our videos. I had 2.7 million “likes” when I was on TikTok. But I like being off social media more. I moved to Barbados when I was six and I’m 18 now. So I’ve lived most of my life in Barbados. I didn’t live in Trinidad long enough for my Trini accent to (remain). But I don’t have a Bajan accent, either. ....
Social Share Throughout this weekend, parents and several old scholars will be working together to rid Harrison College of volcano ash. From as early as 7 a.m. on Saturday, the volunteers joined the staff at the Crumpton Street secondary school to wipe furniture, vacuum, sweep and clean surfaces of the dust and ash from La Soufrière in St Vincent and the Grenadines, which began to cover Barbados earlier this month. Vice president of the Parent Teachers Association, Shawn Franklin, said they were expected to work until around midday on Saturday and tomorrow to get the school ready. Due to the extensive coverage of ash, the resumption of in-person teaching which was set for April 20 was postponed. Students will resume in an online environment on Tuesday until face-to-face classes can resume. (TG) ....
Medford’s equation for ultimate success Article by April 15, 2021 Growing up he has always been fascinated by numbers, and so it came as no surprise when Jovan Medford, 22, decided to embark on a journey that he has always dreamed of. It was after about a year of developing the programme and carrying out several tests that he decided to launch thecaribbeanscholar.com, an online learning institution dedicated towards developing high quality online experience for students, primarily targeting those at the CSEC level, said Medford. He started out by offering a free algebra course, Make Algebra Make Sense, before introducing a subscription model for the math courses a month later. Medford told Today’s BUSINESS that his concept was designed to make lear ....

Building out poverty is part of the Barbados experience. It is an experiential model that changing attitudes is shredding and shedding. To borrow in order to acquire a five-bedroom bungalow – or truck is fashionable, but to live within means – growing step by step from a chattel house or a Morris minor car is not hip. The imported lifestyle – and not the homegrown idea, is considered a better way. Thankfully, those gems of poverty may be ignored, but they never die. ....
[Many thanks to Peter Jordens for bringing this item to our attention.] Barbados Today reports that poet Cyndi Celeste Marshall will “fly the Bajan flag” at the 2021 Women of the World Poetry Slam from April 6 to 10 in Dallas, Texas. What makes the occasion so unique is that she is the first Barbadian to enter. The event will see 80 female poets from around the world on stage. The artiste, whose stage name is Cyndi Celeste, is elated to be taking part. “I am just excited to show the American poetry scene what Caribbean people can do with their language. It also feels like quite a bit of pressure and that is because I put a fair set of pressure on myself.” ....
