Blanchester council makes move to attract BPD officer candidates BLANCHESTER The village hopes a training reimbursement plan will draw in potential police applicants. At Thursday’s Blanchester Village Council meeting, members approved one of three proposed plans that would reimburse 50% of an officer’s cost of basic certification training after two years of employment. The plan would reimburse 50% of an officer’s cost of basic certification training. This would be a one-time payment out of the village’s budget totaling $3,500 or less, making contractual provisions simple. The three plans were suggested by Blanchester Police Chief Scott Reinbolt and Village Solicitor Katie Wilkin as a way to “increase the number of incoming applicants for the position of police officer.” ....
Clinton County Historical Society: Progressing despite past year’s pandemic Submitted article WILMINGTON The Clinton County Historical Society met virtually on Tuesday, March 9 for its annual meeting to review the previous year. Four current board members were nominated for reelection – Harry Brumbaugh, Stan Hannah, Susan Henry and Patti Herron. Executive Director Shelby Boatman provided a detailed report on the past year. Before a 2020 state mandate closed the doors of the History Center for three months, the Society hosted a joint effort with the Wilmington Area Ministerial Association at the Murphy Theatre in honor of Black History Month. Due to COVID-19, the Society witnessed a significant reduction in visitors and income, but used the year to expand its digital footprint by improving their website and providing webinar-style lectures on topics including Women’s Suffrage. Blanchester residents, council address proposed sidewalk near elementary school BLANCHESTER Some locals are questioning the safety and need for an additional sidewalk. Holly Drummond, who lives across the street from Putman Elementary School, addressed concerns she said she and other residents have about a proposed sidewalk during Thursday’s Blanchester Village Council meeting. The proposed new sidewalk for Baldwin Street is part of the village’s Safe Routes to School project. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) program provides funds to school districts to increase pedestrian activity and infrastructure in the community. “There’s no parking on our side of the street,” said Drummond. “And we see no reason why there needs to be a sidewalk on this side of the street. It just makes no sense to us.” ....
