Hatfield taps veteran educator as interim schools chief > Published: 7/7/2021 9:03:15 PM HATFIELD An educator with nearly 30 years of school leadership experience will begin his tenure as interim superintendent of Hatfield public schools Monday. The Hatfield School Committee announced this week that Michael Wood, previously assistant superintendent for special education in Malden, will replace Martin McEvoy as superintendent. McEvoy left the position he held for a year at the end of June. “My goals are to get to know the system, the people who work there and live there, and what their hopes and dreams are for education,” Wood said. Wood said he applied for the position because the skills he could bring would be a good match. The Hatfield district consists of Smith Academy and Hatfield Elementary School. ....

Published: 4/8/2021 8:02:32 PM HATFIELD Hatfield School Superintendent Martin McEvoy will be leaving the district June 30 after a year guiding the public schools through the COVID-19 pandemic. McEvoy, of Pittsfield, was appointed unanimously by the School Committee last March. He announced this week that he is resigning as superintendent on June 30. “While the past pandemic year certainly presented formidable challenges, we have been overcoming them and positioning the district for continued success in the future,” McEvoy said in an interview Thursday. ....

Baystate Health President Dr. Mark Keroack says the first shots will be administered on Wednesday. The first doses will go to the most vulnerable populations. Phase 1 includes healthcare workers and the elderly living in nursing homes. Phase 2 is expected to start in February. Teachers and those over 65 will get those shots. Phase 3 includes the general public and will likely begin in April. (Athol, MA) Positive COVID-19 cases and deaths in two local nursing homes continue to rise. Three coronavirus-related deaths were reported yesterday at Quabbin Valley Helathcare in Athol. That same facility reported 23 residents and 19 staff members have tested positive.
