At least 11 Covid-19 patients died due to a problem in oxygen supply inside the ICU in Government-run Ruia Hospital here late on Monday night, Chittoor district Collector M Hari Narayanan said.
There was a five-minute lag in reloading the oxygen cylinder that caused the pressure to drop, resulting in the deaths, he said.
The oxygen supply was restored within five minutes and everything is now normal. Because of this we could prevent more casualties, Hari Narayanan added. ....

At least 11 Covid-19 patients died due to a problem in oxygen supply inside the ICU in Government-run Ruia Hospital here late on Monday night, Chittoor district Collector M Hari Narayanan said.

TIRUPATI: At least eleven patients died and the condition of five others was stated to be critical, after the oxygen supply was disrupted for a brief period at the SVR Ruia Government Hospital in Tirupati, on Monday evening.
As per the hospital authorities, there were only 11 deaths, but victims alleged that the fatalities score might double. Chittoor District Collector Hari Narayanan told that the oxygen tanker coming to the hospital from Chennai was delayed. The authorities in the meantime used bulk cylinders to supply oxygen to patients who were on ventilators in the ICU. ....

New Delhi, May 11 (EFE).- At least 11 coronavirus patients died from lack of oxygen in a hospital in southern India, after the tanker bringing medical oxygen was delayed, in what is the latest incident of this type in the country amid an unprecedented health crisis, official sources reported Tuesday.
The incident occurred overnight at the SVR Ruia hospital in Tirupati, in Andhra Pradesh state, when the oxygen supply to Covid-19 patients in the ICU was disrupted for a few minutes, head of district administration, Hari Narayanan, told the media. ....
