Zim documents citizens in foreign lands BY NQOBANI NDLOVU ZIMBABWE’s Foreign Affairs ministry claims it has begun a process of documenting the number of fellow citizens residing in foreign lands. There is no exact number of Zimbabweans in foreign lands as many have been fleeing the country since 2000, and before as economic and political refugees. The Zimbabwe diaspora is spread out mainly in neighbouring South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Australia and other countries. South Africa is estimated to have the bulk of Zimbabwe’s diaspora community, with some claims putting the unofficial figure at nearly three million. ....

His short story Seventh Street Alchemy was awarded the 2004 Caine Prize for African writing in English; Chikwava became the first Zimbabwean to do so. He has been a Charles Pick fellow at the University of East Anglia, and lives in London. He continues to write in England and put out an album titled Jacaranda Skits. Zimbabwe High Court Grants 2 MDC Alliance Activists $20,000 Bail After Spending 2 Months in Prison May 05, 2021 Share share Print The High Court has granted bail to Movement for Democratic Change Alliance’s Harare North lawmaker, Joanna Mamombe, and part youth leader, Cecilia Chimbiri, who were in remand prison for two months, facing charges of insulting police and breaking COVID-19 lockdown regulations. In a tweet, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, said Justice Webster Chinamora granted the two ZWL$10,000 each. They were also ordered to report to the nearest police station twice a week, live at their present addresses and not to interfere with state witnesses. ....
Ken Sharpe HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been cornered to explain a secret land deal with controversial millionaire businessman Ken Sharpe after a Harare MP and two others went to court to get it reversed. Allan Norman Markhan, the MDC Alliance MP for Harare North, is one of the litigants who want the land deal between City of Harare and controversial businessman Ken Sharpe – apparently forced through by local government minister July Moyo – to be reversed on the grounds that it was not only illegal but a “grand theft” of land belonging to the people of Zimbabwe. The deal involved 273 hectares of prime land in Harare’s affluent area of Pomona. The land is worth US$205 million, but was allegedly undervalued to a mere US$20 million. ....
ED’s name dropped in Airport Road scam BY EVERSON MUSHAVA PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa’s name has been dropped in a messy land scandal involving controversial Ukranian investors who were given vast tracts of prime land in Harare following the intervention of one of his allies. A High Court application filed by Harare North MP Allan Norman Markham, together with a company called Tavonga Savings Scheme and a Harare resident, Jacob Pikicha, on March 10, which challenges a deed of settlement between Augur Investments and Harare City Council, claimed that Mnangagwa’s name was used in the process of allocating the land, leading to the “corrupt” deal. ....
