The Town of Hammondville is hosting is first annual car show on Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at 10 a.m. Vehicles may register the day of the event, $25 per vehicle and $20 per motorcycle. There will be a 50/50 drawing, music, food, prizes and various vendor booths. All proceeds will go to refurbish Hammondvilleâs baseball field. The Fort Payne City Pool is open Monday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Daily pass is $3, Individual Season Pass is $100 and Family Pass (up to 4) is $150 with $10 per each additional child. Hours may vary based on staffing, attendance, maintenance and weather. The 110th Annual DeKalb County Fiddlersâ Convention has been canceled. The city will have roll-off dumpsters placed behind the city shop for residents served by the City of Rainsville Sanitation Department to utilize free of charge. Proof of services via a sanitation bill is required and the dumpster will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. The Alabama Department of Transportation advises motorists that U.S. 11 between Hammondville and Sulphur Springs in DeKalb County reopened this afternoon. The highway was closed to through traffic for the past year, during replacement of the bridge over Dry Creek. The bridge is now complete. About 60 feet longer and 20 feet wider than the old bridge constructed in 1928, the new bridge will provide improved safety for motorists. The Bridge Builders of Alabama is the contractor on the $2,699,178 project. ....

Alabama 117 between Mentone and Valley Head remains closed as a precaution, pending further investigation and repair of a landslide below the roadway on the side of Lookout Mountain. It closed April 1 following landslide after heavy rains, according to Seth Burkett, the Alabama Department of Transportation’s public information officer for the northern region. ALDOT’s ALGOtraffic.com website lists the road as closed until noon on April 30. That does not, however, necessarily mean that it will remain closed for that long. Burkett said drill crews have taken samples from the impacted area and surveyors will inspect the landslide today. Mentone residents are making the best of a bad situation. ....
