The goal to have 1 million businesses by the end of 2020, thus, was not met. The Government’s Resolution 35/NQ-CP dated May 16, 2016 set a target to have 1 million businesses by 2020, including large-scale ones with strong resources. In 2015, nearly 443,000 enterprises were in the country. In order to achieve the target, the average number of newly established enterprises each year had to increase by 17.7%, which was an ambitious goal. ....

Photo: Le Toan A long list of companies, including a slew of real estate services providers, was made public last week as an important initiative of local authorities to put tax-debt cases under review. Hanoi Tax Department under the General Department of Taxation published the list of over 2,000 taxpayers with debts, especially land tax under the law on non-agricultural land-use tax. The figure is roughly estimated at VND6.39 trillion ($278 million), including 1,500 taxpayers with potential tax debt collection of VND5.748 trillion ($250 million), and 530 taxpayers with soured debt tax amount of approximately VND638 million ($27.7 million). ....

The Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HSX) has just announced that CenLand s ticker CRE is not eligible for margin trading due to tax evasion and fraud. According to the Hanoi Tax Department, after a tax inspection at CenLand, significant arrears were uncovered as a result of undeclared revenues and incorrect tax returns. CenLand also committed several violations including using invalid tax invoices and adding the wrong date and time on tax invoices. ....
