Photo by: Town of Huntington The Huntington Town Board held its April 2021 meeting remotely and broadcast meeting audio and video live, where they approved funding for a new animal shelter and approved plans for a permanent memorial to honor victims of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Town Board tasked the Directors of the Departments of General Services and Parks & Recreation with recommending an appropriate permanent memorial and location for the memorial to honor the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recommendations from the departments will be due within 90 days of the passage of the resolution.
“Given the magnitude of this once-in-a-century pandemic, and the isolation that resulted for all of us and especially for our most vulnerable, we want to give these victims’ survivors a sacred place where the entire community can honor their loved ones’ memories and the significant impact these losses have had on our community ....

Attendance will be limited to 50% of capacity, and visitors must obtain tickets in advance at huntington.org. Available for viewing will be the newly restored masterpiece of 18th-century British portraiture, ``The Blue Boy by Thomas Gainsborough. In addition, ``Made in L.A. 2020: a version, the fifth iteration of the Hammer Museum s biennial exhibition, will debut at both the Hammer Museum and the Huntington in two versions that make up the whole, and will remain at both institutions through Aug. 1. ....

A farmer in Illinois found himself with a curious mystery on his hands this week when an attempt to repair a sloping sidewalk outside his home revealed a remarkably well-crafted and quite large tunnel that ran beneath his property. Comprised entirely of bricks, the intriguing passage measures approximately nine feet wide by nine feet tall and runs about 60 feet before hitting a huge pile of dirt that blocked wherever the tunnel is meant to lead. Believed to have been constructed around 1840, the purpose of the odd underpass is unknown as it could have been created to hold ice, served as a root cellar, or even been a part of the Underground Railroad. ....
