Lubbock ISD board names new police chief, 2 principals

The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees approved the recommendations of an appointment to the district’s administrative cabinet and two principal positions during its May board meeting on Thursday.
Ramon Mendoza was selected Chief of Police of the Lubbock ISD Police Department. He is currently Deputy Chief of Police for the Lubbock Police Department. He began his more than 24-year career in law enforcement in 1997 with Lubbock PD, and has served as a patrol corporal/officer, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain before being elevated to deputy chief.
He has extensive administrative experience as commander of a patrol division, criminal investigation division, family crimes, information services, and traffic unit.

The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees has approved appointments for the new Chief of Police for the Lubbock ISD Police Department and principals of 2 elementary schools.
According to a Lubbock ISD news release, Ramon (Ray) Mendoza, the current Deputy Chief of Police for the Lubbock Police Department, has been selected as the new Lubbock ISD Police Department s Chief of Police. Mendoza began his 24+ year-long career in law enforcement back in 1997, serving as a patrol corporal/officer, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain before eventually becoming the deputy chief. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with Emphasis in Criminal Justice from Eastern New Mexico University back in 1996.
Hutchinson School s examines curriculum and loses some coaches
Hutchinson Public School s Board of Education held a study session meeting on April 26. During this meeting, the board took an in-depth look at a recent curriculum audit.
The audit, conducted by the education service center Greenbush, examined the district’s curriculum as well as programs that support student behavior. The audit also surveyed district staff on effectiveness. Based on information gleaned in the audit, the district is expected to drop some initiatives that no longer match up with curriculum objectives and practices.
Also during the meeting, the board received an update on Kansas Education Systems Accreditation.

Spring break kicks off this weekend for many students across the state, with some familiar features along with the all-too-familiar COVID-19 precautions.
As usual, the Texas Department of Public Safety is stepping up enforcement efforts as traffic picks up for spring break, even as Texas Tech and other major universities have scaled back their traditional mid-semester breaks.
And while spring break may look different for many universities, many area school districts are still planning to take the upcoming week off to give students a break. But to help students get through that time away from their regular school meals, Lubbock and Frenship ISD announced free meal distribution events through the week.

In partnership with our transportation and food service providers, Lubbock ISD is fortunate to have the ability to offer free meals for
all children 18 and under in the Lubbock community during the spring break holiday.
On Monday, March 15, families can pick up a bag for each child that includes five breakfast meals and five lunch meals. Buses will deliver the meals at all locations except for Matthews Learning Center, where pickup will be on the south side of the building. The buses will be at each location during the timeframes listed below:
