The Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum and Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Saturday, pushed back on the anti-restructuring comments by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and other critics of the resolutions reached by the Southern Governors’ Forum during last Tuesday’s meeting.
Okowa spoke on behalf of 16 other governors from the Southern zone of the country who he hosted in Asaba, Delta State capital. ....

says 17 govs not against nation’s unity
The Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum and Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Saturday, pushed back on the anti-restructuring comments by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and other critics of the resolutions reached by the Southern Governors’ Forum during last Tuesday’s meeting.
Okowa spoke on behalf of 16 other governors from the Southern zone of the country who he hosted in Asaba, Delta State capital.
This is as Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, also, on Saturday, said the decisions reached by the Southern governors, including the demand for restructuring, were irrevocable.
Seventeen Southern governors, who jettisoned their party affiliations, had met to discuss urgent national issues and reached some resolutions, which are now referred to as the Asaba Declaration. ....

How would you describe the state of organised labour in Nigeria today?
The state of labour in Nigeria today is a reflection of Nigerian Society. Unfortunately, labour has done a lot, even performed beyond the expectation of an average labour activist. The law establishing the labour movement is aimed at defending the interest of workers and agitates for better remuneration. Labour takes additional responsibilities due to the passiveness of Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOs), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and members of the public from whom labour is supposed to draw additional strength. Nine Govs Pilfering LG Funds Through Cronies –NULGE

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees on Friday raised the alarm that about nine governors were diverting local government funds, in violation of the guideline issued by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit in May 2019.
The union said the actions of the governors were depriving the people of the benefits that they should ordinarily have access to, as it threatened to shut down the 774 councils in the country if their demands were not met within 30 days.
The union also called on the President, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to sign an executive order preventing any state that failed to conduct LG poll from accessing local government allocations. ....
